On wove paper (papier vélin), with watermark "Arches", a minimal crease at lower left corner, overall in perfect condition and fresh in colour

Commentaires

Marc Chagall commissioned Charles Sorlier to lithographically reproduce original works for individual sheets; in the present case, it is the left part of a study for the large-format oil painting "Le Cantique des Cantiques III" created in 1960. The motif of this interpretation lithograph was also used as a poster to promote the "Musée National Message Biblique Marc Chagall" in Japan. 200 copies of the separate edition without lettering were printed by Mourlot in Paris, and 50 artist's proofs also exist

Erläuterungen

Marc Chagall beauftragte für einzelne Blätter Charles Sorlier mit der lithographischen Reproduktion von Originalarbeiten, im vorliegenden Fall handelt es sich um den linken Teil einer Studie für das 1960 geschaffene, grossformatige Ölgemälde "Le Cantique des Cantiques III". Verwendet wurde das Motiv dieser Interpretationslithographie auch als Plakat zur Promotion des "Musée National Message Biblique Marc Chagall" in Japan. Von der Separatauflage ohne Schrift wurden 200 Exemplare von Mourlot in Paris gedruckt, zudem existieren 50 Künstlerabzüge
