Slightly curved cardboard, reinforced with newsprint from March 1920. With minimal craquelure in the background of the right part of the picture and with a small loss of colour in the centre at the lower margin. In very good condition and fresh in colour

Commentaires

The present painting shows a small-format, colour-intensive self-portrait of the artist in half-profile. The background is very abstract. - The work originally came from the collection of the lawyer Dr. Friedrich Trüssel (1873-1965), called Fritz. He was president of the Bernese Art Society and a friend of Amiet. Amiet made a mural of a youth, a figure detached from the context of the Fountain of Youth, for Fritz Trüssel in his garden pavilion in Bern

Erläuterungen

Das vorliegende Gemälde zeigt ein kleinformatiges, farbintensives Selbstbildnis des Künstlers im Halbprofil. Der Hintergrund ist sehr abstrakt gehalten. - Das Werk stammt ursprünglich aus der Sammlung des Rechtsanwalts Dr. Friedrich Trüssel (1873-1965), Fritz genannt. Er war Präsident der Bernischen Kunstgesellschaft und ein Freund Amiets. Für Fritz Trüssel fertigte Amiet ein Wandbild eines Jünglings, eine Figur aus dem Kontext des Jungbrunnens gelöst, in dessen Gartenpavillon in Bern an
