Tristan Tzara, whose real name was Samuel Rosenstock, wrote this text in 1945 when he was in the psychiatric ward of Saint-Alban in the Lozère département, not because he was being treated, but because individual doctors around François Tosquelles gave shelter to some Jews and fighters of the Résistance
