Schoch/Mende/Scherbaum: The image type of "Heiligen Anna Selbdritt" is an expression of the rapturous Annen cult, which received new impetus in 1481 from Sixtus IV through the inclusion of the feast of Anna in the Roman church calendar. With the founding of the "Annenbruderschaften", the cult developed into a broad movement and also found numerous followers in humanist circles - with Tritzemius, Celtis, Brant and others. The turn of the century, the sheet was created around 1500, was the peak of the Annen cult

Schoch/Mende/Scherbaum: Der Bildtypus der "Heiligen Anna Selbdritt" ist Ausdruck des schwärmerischen Annenkultes, der 1481 von Sixtus IV. durch die Aufnahme des Annafestes in den römischen Kirchenkalender neuen Aufschwung erhielt. Mit der Gründung der Annenbruderschaften entfaltete sich der Kult zu einer breiten Bewegung und fand auch in humanistischen Kreisen - mit Tritzemius, Celtis, Brant u.a. - zahlreiche Anhänger. Die Jahrhundertwende, das Blatt entstand um 1500, war der Höhepunkt des Annenkultes
