Commentaires

A pair of lovers glow in shades of red on a summer’s evening; in the background is the imaginary Vitebsk, with its characteristic small houses and the synagogue or Orthodox church with dome. In his composition, the artist summons the characteristics of his emblematic hometown to integrate the lovers into a delicately structured, pastelaccented landscape. The rooster floats above the scene as a symbol of family and stability, along with the mystical animal, which, like the vivid green of the man’s clothing represents a readiness for renewal. This is a work with rich colours that fill the entire pictorial space

Erläuterungen

Ein in unterschiedlichen Rottönen glühendes Liebespaar in sommerlicher Abendstimmung, im Hintergrund das imaginäre Witebsk, mit den charakteristischen kleinen Häusern und der Synagoge oder orthodoxen Kirche mit Kuppel. Der Künstler ruft die Merkmale seiner emblematischen Heimatstadt gestalterisch in Erinnerung, um das Liebespaar in einen fein strukturierten, mit Pastell akzentuierten Landschaftsrahmen zu integrieren. Über der Szenerie schweben der Hahn, als Zeichen der Familie und Beständigkeit sowie das mit wenigen Strichen angedeutete "mystische Tier", das, wie das starke Grün, für die Erneuerungsbereitschaft steht. Ein Werk mit satter Farbigkeit, die prägend den ganzen Bildraum erfüllt
