Under passepartout, with a small colour chip in lower margin. Colour fresh and in overall very good condition

Commentaires

Shown is the fourth figure from the right of the Basel version (cf. Bätschmann/Müller 1593). There are numerous individual studies of this figure in which the artist changed the right arm several times, which suggests that he was undecided about the ideal posture within the composition. Philomène Charles probably served as a model from 1910 onwards.

Erläuterungen

Dargestellt ist die vierte Figur von rechts der Basler Fassung (vgl. Bätschmann/Müller 1593). Es gibt zahlreiche Einzelstudien dieser Figur, in denen der Künstler den rechten Arm mehrfach veränderte, was den Schluss zulässt, dass er unschlüssig über die ideale Körperhaltung innerhalb der Komposition war. Als Modell diente vermutlich ab 1910 Philomène Charles
