Commentaires

Klee began teaching at the Bauhaus in Weimar on 10 January 1921. These were very fruitful years; in Februaryy 1923, the National Gallery in Berlin held an important solo exhibition of 270 works at the Kronprinzenpalais

This large-format painting on paper was created at the height of Klee's activity at the Bauhaus and impressively unites his artistic interests: the examination of architecture and the simplification in the representation of space; the figure on the left can also be read as a symbol for the turmoil surrounding the authorship of Schlemmer's "Triadic Ballet", for which a solution was found in June 1923

Erläuterungen

Klees Lehrtätigkeit am Bauhaus in Weimar begann am 10. Januar 1921. Es waren sehr fruchtbare Jahre; im Februar 1923 veranstaltete die Nationalgalerie in Berlin im Kronprinzenpalais eine mit 270 Werken wichtige Einzelausstellung

Die vorliegende, grossformatige Malerei auf Papier entstand auf dem Höhepunkt von Klees Tätigkeit am Bauhaus und vereinigt seine künstlerischen Interessen eindrücklich: Die Auseinandersetzung mit der Architektur und die Vereinfachung in der Darstellung des Raums; die Figur links kann auch als Symbol für die Wirren zur Autorenschaft um Schlemmers "Triadisches Ballett" gelesen werden, für die im Juni 1923 eine Lösung gefunden werden konnte
