Poliakoff is considered one of the most important representatives of the "École de Paris" and developed a very independent form of abstract painting. He successively expanded his color scale with luminous, sometimes minimally contrasting hues. Again and again there are series of paintings dedicated to only one color. Thus he created all blue, green, yellow, grey or even also red compositions. The artist was represented in many exhibitions from the late 1950s onwards and in the early 1960s and was also a participant in "documenta II" (1959) and "documenta III" (1964) in Kassel. It was during this period that he created the important, large-format work offered here, "Composition abstraite" of 1961

Poliakoff gilt als einer der wichtigsten Vertreter der "École de Paris" und entwickelte eine sehr eigenständige Form abstrakter Malerei. Sukzessive erweiterte er seine Farbskala um leuchtende, manchmal minimal gegeneinander abgesetzte Töne. Immer wieder finden sich Serien von nur einer Farbe gewidmeter Gemälde. So schuf er etwa rein blaue, grüne, gelbe, graue oder eben auch rote Kompositionen. Der Künstler war ab Ende der 1950er und Anfang der 1960er Jahre in vielen Ausstellungen zu sehen und war auch Teilnehmer an der "documenta II" (1959) und der documenta III (1964) in Kassel. In dieser Zeit entstand auch das bedeutende, grossformatige Werk "Composition abstraite" aus dem Jahre 1961, das hier angeboten wird
