Chagall dedicated countless works to the topos of love. The lovers with a bouquet of flowers are iconographically in the foreground, while houses from Vitebsk can be seen in the background. The man is painted in red, the woman resting in blue. Both the bouquet on the left and the tree on the right are symbols of life and joy. The love for people in general and his life partners in particular was always an important source of inspiration for Chagall - he also "sang about" it in numerous texts

Chagall widmete dem Topos der Liebe unzählige Werke. Das Liebespaar mit Blumenstrauss steht hier ikonographisch im Vordergrund, im Hintergrund sind Häuser aus Witebsk zu sehen. Der Mann ist in Rot gemalt, die Frau in sich ruhend in Blau. Sowohl der Blumenstrauss links und der Baum rechts sind Symbole des Lebens und der Freude. Die Liebe zu den Menschen allgemein und seinen Lebenspartnerinnen im Besonderen war für Chagall stets eine wichtige Inspirationsquelle - er "besang" sie auch in zahlreichen Texten
