    Comments

The present work consists of three separately mounted canvases on wood, which are screwed together. The red stripe occupies a limited area, the blue stripe extends over a greater length, and the yellow stripe beneath is again shorter. The arrangement of the three individual elements creates a dynamic composition through the differing proportions of length and width. The colour fields are precisely defined, and the colours shine in their purity.

Jo Niemeyer is considered one of the most important representatives of Concrete Art in Germany. His artistic practice is permeated by mathematical principles, especially the Golden Ratio, whose proportional relationships he systematically explores. The length ratios of the three stripes follow this geometric logic. Niemeyer works as a graphic artist, designer, and painter, consistently applying the principles of constructive abstraction. His works dispense with any emotional or symbolic dimension of expression and focus entirely on the purity of form and colour.
