    Comments

Jean Tinguely is regarded as an important representative of Nouveau Réalisme. This is evident in his unconventional "Assemblages", which are composed of randomly found everyday objects. The present object artwork, made for use, incorporates children's toys such as Sylvester the Cat, which, adorned with feathers, long wires, and a cut-open watering can, forms a "Fasnachtslarve" and recalls the headdress of a chief. The artist was an active member of the Basel carnival clique "Kuttlebutzer" for almost 20 years, a group to which Eberhard W. Kornfeld also belonged. The clique shaped the Basel carnival with its creativity and nonconformism.
