The present work shows two wine glasses and a beaker, depicted with black lines and washes in shades of gray and blue. Nicholson captures the objects with geometric precision, the forms stylized and reduced to simple outlines. The watercolour wash subtly models the volumes without disturbing the clarity of the line drawing. The brown ground of the hardboard frames the work on paper and enhances its luminosity. The execution appears both spontaneous and considered.

This work belongs to a series of abstracted still life studies. For decades, Nicholson engaged in reducing objects to geometric essentials. The beakers and the vase are not decorative objects, but occasions for the exploration of form and space. Das vorliegende Werk zeigt zwei Weingläser und einen Becher, dargestellt durch schwarze Linien und Lavierungen in Grau- und Blautönen. Nicholson erfasst die Objekte mit geometrischer Präzision, die Formen sind stilisiert zu einfachen Umrissen reduziert. Die Aquarelllavierung modelliert subtil die Volumen, ohne die Klarheit der Linienzeichnung zu stören. Der braune Grund der Hartfaserplatte rahmt die Arbeit auf Papier ein und verstärkt deren Leuchtkraft. Die Ausführung wirkt spontan und durchdacht zugleich.

Diese Arbeit gehört zu einer Serie von abstrahierten Stillleben-Studien. Nicholson beschäftigte sich über Jahrzehnte mit der Reduktion von Objekten zu geometrischen Essentials.
