Henri Michaux is known for both his painting and his poetry. His passion for writing was ignited at an early age. In 1937, the first exhibition of his paintings took place at Galerie Pierre in Paris. Michaux's unique artistic style was described by critics as sensational.
His artistic inspiration was nourished by his contacts with the Parisian avant-garde, especially Max Ernst and Giorgio de Chirico. Participation in the Surrealist movement, experiments with hallucinogenic substances, and numerous world travels left a lasting mark on his work.
