    Comments

The year 1961 marks a significant turning point in the life and work of the German artist Julius Bissier. With his move from Lake Constance to Ascona in Ticino, a phase in his creative work intensified, characterized by a predominantly nuanced palette of muted tones and an increasingly free formal language in his abstract works. Characteristic of this group of works is the interplay of organically evocative and geometric forms, which condense into a reduced, emblematic visual language. Through the differentiated use of finely graduated colour values, Bissier creates a subtle visual effect of quiet intensity. The form elements, which appear to float freely within the pictorial space, elude any clear spatial localization and at the same time create an atmosphere of balance and calm.
