    Comments

The present work shows parallel lines systematically emanating from a diagonal. LeWitt uses Indian ink and pencil on smoothly polished wove paper. The left side is executed in red, yellow, and blue, the right side in black. The lines run parallel and at even intervals, following a geometric order.

This work was created during a phase in which LeWitt was exploring his system of parallel lines. Since the 1960s, the artist developed a visual language based on a few geometric elements: lines, grids, and grid patterns. Stylistically, the work belongs to conceptual art and Minimal Art. LeWitt’s interest was in the idea before execution. The parallel lines are a fundamental element of his artistic language.
