    Comments

The present diptych shows black areas with a red pattern on one sheet, while on the other sheet this colour distribution is reversed. The composition is structured by a grid of white lines.

Donald Judd explored systematic variations of geometric forms in his prints. The two sheets demonstrate the interchangeability of colour elements within a stable system. Stylistically, the work belongs to Judd’s characteristic Minimal Art practice, which is based on repetition, order, and mathematical precision. The diptych shows Judd’s ongoing engagement with serial structures even in his later years.

Edited by the Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne, and the Chinati Foundation, Marfa, printed by Urban Stoob, Steindruck, St. Gallen.
