The painting is not only a high-quality and impressive testament to the development of the expressionist style in the early 20th century, but with the horse carousel and the colorful fairground booths on Basel’s Barfüsserplatz, it also captures one of Switzerland’s oldest and most famous folk festivals: the Basel Autumn Fair.

Das Gemälde ist nicht nur ein qualitätsvolles und beeindruckendes Zeugnis der expressionistischen Stilentwicklung des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts, sondern hält mit dem Pferdekarussell und den bunten Schaubuden auf dem Basler Barfüsserplatz auch eines der ältesten und bekanntesten Volksfeste der Schweiz fest: die Basler Herbstmesse.
