    Comments

After turning to printmaking in 1908, Christian Rohlfs began to individually rework and colour the prints, making each impression unique. With this artistic approach, he consciously took a stand against the reproduction of prints. A linocut serves as the basic structure, over which the artist works with vibrant tempera and watercolour. The woman’s head in half-profile is modelled using strong blue and black tones, which stand out against the intensely red background field.
