    Condition

Sheet with minimal foxing, slightly browned especially along the edges, lower left corner with traces of glue, upper right corner with slight paper loss. Mount with lightstruck areas and slightly browned. In very good condition

    Comments

Before Klee began with the motif, he dampened the paper. He then used a fine pen to draw the outlines of the landscape and accented them with diluted Indian ink. The process of bleeding creates a delicate and transparent pictorial effect. The view shows Lake Murten from Mont-Vully. The chain of hills on the shore of the lake lies on the border between Vaud and the canton of Fribourg. The sheet was created in the summer of 1910, when Klee made excursions from Bern to the area between Lake Murten and Lake Neuchâtel.

With the so-called wet-on-wet technique, Paul Klee achieved an increasing reduction of objects or their dissolution into abstraction in the following years. This is especially true for his watercolours. In our drawing, the artist succeeded in a wonderful way in creating a contemplative and poetic mood.

    Zustand

In sehr guter Erhaltung
