    Comments

Klee's location is the bank of the Aare in the area of Campagne Märchligen. Depicted is the view upstream along the Aare towards the Belpberg.

There exists a second drawing with the title "Der Belpberg und der Aareverlauf" (CR 433), which is almost identical to the present version. Our sheet was created between June and October 1909, when Klee was staying in Bern because his son Felix was in Switzerland at that time to recover from an operation.
