    Comments

In his drawings and paintings, Giovanni Giacometti often depicts people from his surroundings, including family members, relatives, and friends, as well as other individuals such as Bergell farmers, craftsmen, and washerwomen. In our drawing, a woman in traditional costume is shown holding a spindle in her left hand. The spinner combines the themes of craftsmanship and female employment and also serves as a symbol of the traditional, simple life in the Swiss Alpine valleys at the beginning of the 20th century.

Jahrhunderts.
