"La brebis galante" (in German: "Das kokette Schaf") is an artist's book published in 1949, created in collaboration with the poet Benjamin Péret. Ernst illustrated the surrealist opus with colour etchings depicting fantastic, dreamlike creatures. The work is considered a significant example of surrealist book art. Max Ernst, one of the most versatile artists of modernism, a revolutionary of vision and a pioneer of Surrealism, demonstrates with the present collage how innovative and creative he could be, but also how surprising and disconcerting.

"La brebis galante" (zu Deutsch: "Das kokette Schaf") ist ein 1949 veröffentlichtes Künstlerbuch, das in der Zusammenarbeit mit dem Dichter Benjamin Péret entstand. Ernst illustrierte das surrealistische Opus mit Farbradierungen, die fantastische, traumartige Wesen darstellen. Das Werk gilt als bedeutendes Beispiel surrealistischer Buchkunst. Max Ernst, einer der vielseitigsten Künstler der Moderne, ein Revolutionär des Sehens und ein Pionier des Surrealismus, zeigt mit der vorliegenden Collage, wie innovativ und kreativ er sein konnte, aber auch wie überraschend und irritierend.
