On the original stretcher, in the old nailing. With a few small colour losses in the centre of the work. In fresh and good condition
The flower paintings of Augusto Giacometti enjoyed great popularity among his collectors. In addition to many floral motifs, such as the rose, the orchid paintings form an important group in his work. The orchid, with its charisma, is considered the undisputed queen among flowers and stands for deep passion and consuming longing. The present painting stands out for its especially well-considered composition within the artist’s oeuvre. The red-violet of the three blossoms forms an imaginary triangle, with which the diagonals of the slender green leaves correspond. As balanced as the formal construct is, so too is the distribution of colours harmoniously attuned.
