    Comments

Pol Bury's artistic work is inextricably linked to the exploration of movement and time. After initially turning to Surrealism in the 1940s, he increasingly distanced himself from its imagery in the 1950s and developed an independent form of geometric abstraction. A decisive impetus for his further development was the incorporation of electric motors, which gave his works that barely perceptible yet surprising moment of movement. With his participation in the groundbreaking exhibition "Le Mouvement" at Galerie Denise René in Paris in 1955, the Belgian artist established himself as one of the pioneers of kinetic art.

The decelerated movement of his reliefs and sculptures draws attention to the phenomenon of time itself and makes the viewer aware of their own perception of time. The present work, created in May 1962, belongs to the characteristic kinetic reliefs of this creative phase. At the same time, it is one of the rare examples with a red background. The movable elements unfold a special presence against the intense color field.
