On the original stretcher, in the old nailing. With impasto colour application. In impeccable condition
The two bouquets of flowers stand on a small table in front of the white tiled stove in the then-apartment of Cuno and Anna Amiet in the inn at Oschwand. The painting was probably created in the summer of 1909, shortly before the move to the house with studio and garden built by the young architect Otto Ingold.
The Zurich art collector and patron Richard Kisling (1862-1917) acquired the work directly from Amiet. The two shared a close friendship, and Kisling visited the artist several times at Oschwand, as documented by a photograph from 1913 (Zaugg, fig. P. 93). For his extensive art collection, Kisling had a gallery wing specially built in the newly constructed Villa Krähbühl on Zürichberg in 1913. Before moving into the stately family residence, the Kunsthaus Zurich showed a selection of 535 works from Kisling's collection in the summer of 1913, including the present painting offered here.
