The impasto is very well preserved, on the old stretcher. In very good condition
After initial experiments in abstract expressionist painting, Jensen found his way in 1957 to simple geometric basic forms, which he arranged according to his own principles. The starting point for this was Goethe's theory of colours as well as his fascination with systems of order. Inspired by intensive studies of the Maya calendar, pyramid construction plans, the teachings of the Pythagoreans, and physical insights, he developed his characteristic diagrammatic representations of the 1960s.
In "The Journey of Time", horizontally arranged diamonds and triangles are defined by a play of primary and secondary colours, and adjacent colour fields are related to each other in different ways. Jensen applied the impasto paint directly from the tube onto the picture surface. The coloured image grid is occupied at the upper edge by two blue rectangles.
The present work is part 2 of the original series of four panels of the same format, which were arranged as a wall piece. The series was exhibited in this form in 1964 at the Kunsthalle Basel, but was then separated by the artist into four individual pictures. The name of the work, "The Journey of Time", as well as the titles of the individual panels—"Cycle of 780 days", "Four year month sign, first half", "Four year month sign, second part", "Kin Cycle"—refer to the complex time system of the Maya calendar. Comparable to this is the following lot, part 3 of the same series, but with blue rectangles at the lower edge of the picture.

In sehr guter Erhaltung
