    Comments

Magnificent early impression from the unsteelfaced plate, probably printed immediately after its creation in 1905 by Eugène Delâtre in collaboration with the artist. The plate shows sharp-edged corners and is not yet faceted. The sheet impresses with its very high print quality. The entire plate is rendered in a warm, slightly greyish tone, which in some areas (the turban of the seated figure on the right, the forehead and chest of Salomé) was wiped with a finger or a cloth.

It should be recalled here that the Delâtre workshop, and especially Eugène Delâtre, was known for adding special "effects" to the printed impressions at their own discretion. Moreover, artists were forbidden to enter the print workshop where the impressions were made. Even years later, Picasso complained about this to Aldo Crommelynck.

Brigitte Baer emphasizes the rarity of prints from the unsteelfaced plate.
