    Comments

Early work by the Japanese-Swiss artist, who, after her art studies in Seville from 1973 to 1978, moved her artistic career to Switzerland from 1979 onwards. At the beginning of the 1980s, she had her first solo exhibitions at Galerie Pablo Stähli in Zurich and at the Bern gallery Toni Gerber in Bern, before numerous exhibitions in Germany followed. Ikemura’s pictorial language of this period is characterised by expressive figures that captivate the viewer directly, powerfully, and clearly. In our painting, it is a being of oversized, human form, presented in a reclining, contemplative pose supported by three arms.
