Even before the art world’s attention turned to megacities, Balthasar Burkhard had already begun to take an interest in the world’s great metropolises in the 1990s. Following the tradition of his father, who worked as a pilot for the Swiss Air Force, he chose the bird’s-eye view from an airplane. This resulted in impressive shots of cities such as Mexico City, Los Angeles, Tokyo, London, and Paris.

The present photograph exists in an edition of five prints.

Erläuterungen

Noch bevor sich die Aufmerksamkeit der Kunstwelt den Megastädten zuwandte, begann sich Balthasar Burkhard bereits in den 1990er-Jahren für die grossen Metropolen der Welt zu interessieren. In der Tradition seines Vaters, der als Pilot bei der Schweizer Luftwaffe tätig war, wählte er dafür die Vogelperspektive aus einem Flugzeug heraus. So entstanden eindrucksvolle Aufnahmen von Städten wie Mexiko-Stadt, Los Angeles, Tokio, London und Paris.

Die vorliegende Photographie existiert in einer Auflage von fünf Abzügen.
