    Comments

The collages of Max Ernst play a significant role in the development of Surrealist art, as they open up new paths of image creation. By combining seemingly unrelated elements and layering materials of different textures and technical treatments, a new whole is created. This results in surprise effects that seem, not least, to have arisen from the free play of chance. The present work is, in the sense of Max Ernst, an artificially provoked encounter of different "realities". The works of Max Ernst often elude clear stylistic definition, yet they frequently possess a wonderful poetry, as evidenced by the present collage.
