Louis Baudit was a Swiss painter who devoted himself especially to depicting Lake Geneva and its traditional boats, the "Barques" or lateen-rigged boats. Even in modern times—up to the 1950s—he remained faithful to this motif, which held deep cultural and emotional significance for him. The massive wooden sailing boats with their distinctive, slanting lateen sails appeared in Baudit's paintings not only as means of transport, but as symbols of a vanishing way of life. Through atmospheric lighting—whether in the morning mist or the glow of the setting sun—he gave these scenes an almost poetic timelessness. His love for the lake and these characteristic boats is reflected in numerous paintings that are today considered valuable testimonies to regional identity.

Louis Baudit war ein Schweizer Maler, der sich besonders der Darstellung des Genfersees und seiner traditionellen Boote, den "Barques" oder Lateinersegler, widmete. Auch in der modernen Zeit - bis in die 1950er-Jahre - hielt er an diesem Motiv fest, das für ihn eine tiefe kulturelle und emotionale Bedeutung hatte. Die massiven Holzsegler mit ihren markanten, schräg gestellten Lateinersegeln erschienen in Baudits Gemälden nicht nur als Transportmittel, sondern als Symbole einer verschwindenden Lebenswelt. Durch stimmungsvolle Lichtverhältnisse - im Dunst des Morgens oder beim Glanz der untergehenden Sonne - verlieh er diesen Szenen eine beinahe poetische Zeitlosigkeit. Seine Liebe zum See und zu diesen charakteristischen Booten spiegelt sich in zahlreichen Bildern wider, die heute als wertvolle Zeugnisse regionaler Identität gelten.
