Impeccable condition
This work conveys Zhang Enli's contemplation of the everyday. His favourite motif is the tree, each one as unique as a portrait of a person.
Zhang's approach combines traditional Chinese painting techniques with Western oil painting, with finely rendered trunks and branches standing out against a light background and translucent brushstrokes creating lively structures. The grid-like structure of the working process remains visible - a consciously chosen element that emphasises the handcrafted nature of the creation.
The calm, almost meditative effect of the image is typical of Zhang's style, sustained by reflection and presence rather than dramatic effects. In 'Big Tree', the tree does not appear as a mere motif of nature, but as a silent hero that invites contemplation. The large-format painting allows the viewer to immerse themselves in the branches and leaf structures, as if they were standing under the tree with their head slightly tilted, looking up at the sky.
