    Comments

At the end of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1960s, Alfred Jensen was a well-known artist whose works were shown at major exhibitions and fairs. In 1961, Jensen had a solo exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, followed by another at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 1964. In the year of the Amsterdam exhibition, his works were shown at documenta 3 in Kassel. He participated in documenta 4 and 5 in Kassel in 1968 and 1972, respectively. In 1973, the Kestner-Gesellschaft in Hanover organised a solo exhibition, which toured to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk (Denmark), at the Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, and at the Kunsthalle Bern. The present large-format painting 'Morning Star' (1959) was part of this important touring exhibition. The composition, defined by horizontal rectangles and diamonds as well as a play of primary and secondary colours, is among the characteristic works of the artist's abstract-geometric style.
