Sheet with minimally light-struck area and occasional creases. In very good condition
Here, Grosz depicts the interior of a Berlin café at the beginning of the Weimar Republic. The customers are older men. Most of them sit at small café tables. Their gazes are directed into the room. One gentleman is smoking a cigar, while another sits in front of his empty glass. Two men with their backs to the viewers are leaning in close to each other, apparently discussing confidential matters. No one pays any attention to the musical quartet on stage. However, the musicians do not seem bothered by the audience's disinterest . The older waiter with the angular face on the left in the drawing waits for his cue. The guests consume little; rising unemployment and uncertain times weigh on people's spirits. Thus, most visitors sit at their empty tables.
The pyramidally ascending, unstable perspective in our café scene and the physical isolation of the people point to the unstable socio-economic conditions and the strained atmosphere of the interwar years. Grosz always depicted the people in his environment in an unflattering way. He exaggerated their features in his distinctive style.

Blatt mit minimem Lichtrand und einzelnen Knicken. In sehr guter Erhaltung
