    Comments

The painting 'Winter am Untersee' was created in 1919. Dr Herbert Tannenbaum exhibited it in 1925 in his gallery 'Das Kunsthaus' in Mannheim, together with 39 other works by Adolf Dietrich. The exhibition was very successful, offering the painter the prospect of a materially secure existence. The present work was purchased at the exhibition and remained in the possession of the buyer's family for a long time, forgotten. In the catalogue raisonné published in 1994, the painting was unknown to the authors and is therefore not listed. The winter landscape at Untersee with a fishing boat is an extremely attractive motif, demonstrating the artist's great talent throught the subtle transitions of colour from the green of the lakeshore to the blue of the lake and finally the white of the snow.
