    Comments

Having grown up in the Bregaglia Valley, Diego Giacometti followed his older brother Alberto to Paris in February 1925 after completing his commercial training. At that time, Alberto was working on behalf of the interior architect and furniture designer Jean-Michel Frank (1895-1941) on the design of furnishings. To carry out the commissions, Alberto enlisted Diego's help in creating his 'utilitarian art'. Alberto later entrusted his brother with the entire production process and gave him the right to produce his own designs for the market. Classical forms also found their way into Diego's works, with classical antiquity often serving as a model. The 'Table grecque' is certainly one of the most style-defining designs of his oeuvre. Kornfeld bought the coffee table for his private rooms in Bern.
