Sheet somewhat dusty and with occasional pale foxing. The overall impression very fine
When the sheet was last on the market, its provenance was traced back, albeit with reservations and labelled as "speculative", to the albums that Tiepolo had left to the Somasco monastery near Santa Maria della Salute in Venice before his departure to Madrid in 1762 (see also lot 2179). However, only the Russian provenance can be definitively proven, which then led to the sale of the sheet in 1931 on behalf of the Soviet Union at C. G. Boerner to raise foreign currency. In terms of style and motif, the drawing fits seamlessly into the series of other sheets in the so-called Cheney albums.
