A beautifully elaborated sketch of a fantasy landscape with a Gothic archway. It is characteristic of Guardi's working method that he would take up such striking motifs and vary them again and again. For example, the freestanding Gothic archway appears in at least four paintings (Morassi 966, 968, 970 and 971).

Eine schön durchgearbeitete Skizze einer Phantasielandschaft mit einem gotischen Torbogen. Charakteristisch für Guardis Werkprozess ist, dass er solche markanten Motive immer wieder aufgriff, um sie neu zu variieren. So taucht der freistehende gotische Torbogen in mindestens vier Gemälden wieder auf (Morassi 966, 968, 970 und 971).
