    Group lot

Constantijn Huygens was a well-educated scholar and statesman who was in the service of the two Dutch governors Frederick Henry and William. After the coronation of William of Orange as King William III of England in 1689, Huygens was appointed his secretary. Huygens accompanied William on numerous journeys, especially during the war with France. The numerous pen and brush drawings by the self-taught artist were created during these journeys and, like the drawings by Josua de Graves (see our lots 2131-2134), still provide us with an important insight into the topography and life of the time.
Crayenhem is located in present-day Belgium, one hour from Brussels.

    Erläuterungen

    Konvolut
