    Comments

Josua de Grave accompanied the Dutch army under Governor William III of Orange on his campaign against the French troops in the southern Netherlands between 1672 and 1676.

The drawing was made in the army camp of Leuven. The old attribution to Valentijn Klotz is not correct. Rather, the sheet is a typical example of the summary sketches of soldiers and horses in army camps that De Grave created in relatively large numbers.
