    Condition

Slight craquelures and some colour losses, in good overall condition

    Comments

Jean Pougny was constantly experimenting with new colours and colour combinations. One particularly effective technique consisted of applying a light colour to a darker background with clear, free brushstrokes, leaving the background visible through the top layer. He also deliberately used crumpled canvases in order to develop his motif on the resulting uneven surface. Here is a highly abstracted depiction of a model in front of the easel.
