    Comments

Dora Maar is one of the great style icons of the 20th century. Her passionate relationship with Pablo Picasso, whom she met in 1936, influenced many of the artist's ground-breaking works of art. The attractive 28-year-old with the long black hair became the artist's most famous lover, muse and model. The series of the weeping woman developed in parallel with Picasso's work on "Guernica" and beyond into the autumn of 1937, becoming a powerful metaphor for the horrors of the Spanish Civil War and the general suffering associated with it. Printed as early as 1962, the edition was not published until 1980 by the Galerie Leiris.
