Comments

Beautiful and important design sketches for the curtain of "Skating Rink". A production of the "Ballets Suédois", supervised by Rolf von Marés, which premièred in Paris in 1922. The music was by Arthur Honegger, the choreography by Jean Börlin and the texts by Ricciotto Canudo. Canudo belonged to the circle around Picasso and Chagall before 1914. In October 1921, Fernand Léger began preliminary work on the set and stage design. Carl Einstein wrote an enthusiastic review of a guest performance by the ensemble in Berlin in February 1922, praising the "realism of Léger's presentation".

Erläuterungen

Schöne und wichtige Entwurfsskizzen für den Vorhang von "Skating Rink". Eine in Paris 1922 uraufgeführte Produktion des von Rolf von Marés betreuten "Ballets Suédois". Die Musik stammte von Arthur Honegger, die Choreographie von Jean Börlin und die Texte von Ricciotto Canudo. Canudo zählte vor 1914 zum Kreis um Picasso und Chagall. Im Oktober 1921 nahm Fernand Léger die Vorarbeiten für die Ausstattung und für das Bühnenbild in Angriff. Über ein Gastspiel des Ensembles, das im Februar 1922 in Berlin stattfand, schrieb Carl Einstein eine begeisterte Rezension und lobte den "Realismus in der légerschen Aufmachung".
