    Comments

The purist composition takes up a subject that Le Corbusier had already treated in various drawings between 1927 and 1928 and which also served as a model for a tapestry by Ateliers Picaud in Aubusson in 1954. It depicts a still life on a red table, consisting of two carafes, a jug, a fluted glass and dominoes.

This gouache is one of a group of four preparatory works for a large enamel painting consisting of four enamelled plates of the same size, which the artist produced in 1959 and which were acquired by his friend, the banker Jean-Pierre de Montmollin.

We would like to thank Naïma Jornod for her kind information.
