    Comments

A drawing by Paul Klee executed with a clear line. The artist moved from Munich to Weimar when he was appointed master of the bookbinding workshop at the Bauhaus, and from 1921 lived in the street "Am Horn", in a residential neighbourhood with spacious gardens. The composition is closely related to "Heimgarten-Anlage", no. 2665, a watercolour of almost the same name and from the same year. It is probably a rare example of a preparatory drawing for a later work by the artist. Three trees can be seen standing in surreal-looking cages, surrounded by scaffolding and platforms. Probably a Klee-like analysis of a gardening project in his neighbourhood.
