On wove paper (papier vélin), with watermark "ARCHES". Impeccable in print and condition and fresh in colour.

Comments

Picasso took his time composing the present subject. He created the simple first state with the cymbal dancer and the sketchy flute player in November 1959 and then let the linoleum plate rest. A few months later he took it out again and worked on a more detailed second state. The present third state is again much simpler, but all the more harmonious. - One of the 20 or so copies outside the 1960 edition of the Galerie Louise Leiris, Paris, which were intended for artists and publishers.

Erläuterungen

Beim vorliegenden Sujet liess sich Picasso für die Komposition Zeit. Der schlichte erste Zustand mit der Zimbeltänzerin und dem skizzenhaften Flötenspieler schuf er im November 1959 und liess die Linolplatte anschliessend ruhen. Wenige Monate später nahm er sie wieder hervor und erarbeitete einen detailreicheren zweiten Zustand. Der vorliegende dritte Zustand ist wieder wesentlich schlichter, dafür umso harmonischer. - Eines der ca. 20 Exemplare ausserhalb der Edition von 1960 der Galerie Louise Leiris, Paris, die für Künstler und Verleger bestimmt waren
