Hannah Höch meets Hans Arp in Essen at the end of November 1959 during a stopover on her way to Paris. The artist invites Höch to his studio in Meudon and she visits him there in December, probably with this work as a gift in her luggage. Hans Arp is an admirer of Höch's art, and in 1960 he wants to buy two works by her, which she also gives him. This work has remained in the same family through inheritance and has never been on the market.
