178 or 183 (in Catalogue Bilbao 2013).
Basel 1928, Kunsthalle, Paul Gauguin, cat. no. 178 (First or second edition), with label on spine board;
Berlin 1928, Galerie Thannhauser, Berlin, Paul Gauguin, cat. no. 144 or 154, with inventory label on back board.
On cream wove paper (papier vélin), mounted on cardboard. With slight studio marks and a minimal lightstruck.
While the first edition of the 1928 Basel exhibition catalogue lists a drawing entitled "Head of a Breton Woman, Lightly Watercoloured" under number 178, the second edition lists a "Girl's Head, Tahiti" under the same number. The second edition of the catalogue had included additional works. It is difficult to discern whether this beautiful head study is a depiction of the young Breton or Tahitian woman. The catalogue on Francisco Durrio's collection refers in its numbering to the first edition of the Basel catalogue and the numbering of the label would consequently refer to the young Breton woman
