This colourful composition is an interpretative lithograph by Charles Sorlier, printed from a detail of the design for "Le triomphe de la musique", one of the two large decorations intended for the Metropolitan Opera in New York. A first version of the subject exists, which served as a poster; for the present lithograph the artist added colours and figures, such as the mother and child in the margin on the right or the bird between the buildings at the bottom.
