Perfect impression in dark brown, on strong copperplate printing paper. Parts of the bedspread reworked in charcoal, also the child's head accentuated with charcoal and a few strokes in ink
One of the great rarities in the graphic work of the artist. A total of four copies of this work are known, of the first state only the present one, of the second state two copies. According to new information, the third copy of the second state is probably another state print that only became accessible after the publication of the catalogue raisonné.
In 1911 Kollwitz created several small prints on the theme of "Death", mostly with a child. None of these sheets appeared in an edition

Tadeloser Druck in Dunkelbraun, auf festem Kupferdruckpapier. Teile der Bettdecke in Kohle überarbeitet, ebenso der Kopf des Kindes mit Kohle und wenigen Strichen in Tusche akzentuiert
Eine der grossen Seltenheiten im graphischen Schaffen der Künstlerin. Gesamthaft sind von dieser Arbeit vier Exemplare bekannt geworden, vom I. Zustand lediglich das Vorliegende, vom II. Zustand zwei Exemplare. Nach neuer Erkenntnis dürfte es sich beim dritten Exemplar des II. Zustandes um einen weiteren Zustandsdruck handeln, der erst nach Erscheinen des Werkverzeichnisses zugänglich geworden ist
Kollwitz hat 1911 mehrere kleine Blätter zum Thema "Tod", meist mit einem Kind, geschaffen. Keines dieser Blätter ist in einer Auflage erschienen
